Little blessings

So nannying two little boys this summer has meant a lot of time at the neighborhood pool. One afternoon while the four year old, Wyatt, was eating his snack of Teddy Grahams he had a profound revelation.

He looked at me and said: "Aren't we so lucky to have fingers?"

Then promptly returned to his munching.

I, for one, am very thankful for my fingers.

Remember that time you taped your thumbs down for an entire day?

Yes. Yes. I do.
Still very thankful for my thumbs.

Ok, now I'm trying to imagine the rationale behind taping your thumbs down. Was it because:

a) You lost a drunken wager
b) You were imitating a fierce jungle cat
c) They displeased you and you wanted to teach a lesson to the rest of the phalanges
d) You were auditioning for the part of Nora Combhands in Edward Scissorhands 2: The Stylists of Seville
e) all of the above
f) none of the above

Which is it?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, what's your crazy roommate story?

So you're just going to ignore my questions? The world now silently weeps.

Ooh. Sorry Pete!

Didn't mean to diss you.

I've been struggling with a way to tell my roommate story in an abbreviated enough way. Basically - she was ten years older than I, had a forty year old ex-boyfriend who stalked her/tried to break into our apartment occasionally. She neglected to tell me this before I moved in - so I moved out when I found out. It didn't help that she wanted me to pitch in to pay for a gun to protect us.

That and she was sure that the world was going to end within three weeks.

As much as I would like b to be the answer, it really is less exciting. I just wanted to see how hard it would be to pass a whole day without thumbs. It was miserable. Very difficult.
